From Graffiti to Global Icon
Before museum retrospectives and record-breaking auctions, Brian Donnelly was tagging phone booths and bus shelters across New York City in the early 1990s, reworking billboard ads with his signature crossed-out eyes. That street origin is exactly why KAWS resonates within streetwear culture. He moved fluidly between skate graphics, toy design and gallery walls long before "art meets fashion" became a marketing phrase, and his work still carries that same restless energy today.
Companion, BFF and Chum: Characters You Can Wear and Collect
KAWS built a universe of recurring characters, available at 2nd Culture both as clothing and as vinyl figures.
- Companion: The Mickey Mouse-inspired figure with crossed-out eyes, KAWS's most iconic creation. Available on graphic tees and as figures, from desk pieces to larger display sizes.
- BFF: A soft, pink character often shown mid-embrace, representing comfort. Look for it on crewnecks and as a standalone vinyl piece.
- Chum: A skeletal rework of the Michelin Man, a favourite among collectors who know their KAWS history.
Two rarer finds currently in store: a KAWS Stormtrooper figure from the Star Wars crossover, and an early KAWS Bearbrick from 2003, a piece collectors search for by year. Whether you are starting a collection or adding to one, our team can talk you through condition and packaging on the spot.
KAWS x Uniqlo: Fine Art on Everyday Clothing
Uniqlo's UT collaborations turned KAWS from a name known mainly to art collectors into a wardrobe staple. Over the years the partnership has produced several capsules, from the original Companion and BFF graphics to the KAWS x Peanuts line, the Sesame Street tees and the KAWS + Warhol collection.
At 2nd Culture, we curate these pieces the same way we treat any other item in our collection: hand-selected and checked for condition. Certain designs from earlier drops have become genuinely hard to find, which is exactly the kind of hunt our community lives for.
If bold graphic prints are your thing, our Stüssy collection and Supreme selection sit naturally alongside KAWS, all part of the same lineage of art-driven streetwear.
Authenticity You Can Trust
Knowing what to look for matters, whether you are eyeing a graphic tee or a vinyl figure still in its box. Our team checks stitching, print placement and label details on clothing, and packaging, paint quality and joints on figures, before anything reaches the shelf.
Curious about the process? Our authenticity check service explains exactly how we verify streetwear and collectibles before they go up for sale.
How to Style KAWS x Uniqlo
Let the graphic do the talking. Pair a KAWS Companion tee with straight-leg denim and a pair of clean white sneakers for something you could wear to the studio or the store without trying too hard. For colder days, layer a KAWS BFF crewneck under an oversized bomber, finish with cargo pants and chunky boots, and you have an outfit that feels equal parts gallery opening and skate spot.
Sizing & Fit
Uniqlo UT pieces generally run true to size and follow standard EU/US/UK conversions, though the graphic tees tend to sit slightly boxier than a standard fitted tee. If you like a closer fit, we recommend sizing down one. Always check the individual product page for exact measurements, since older drops occasionally run smaller than current stock.
