The Story Behind A-COLD-WALL*
Samuel Ross launched A-COLD-WALL* in London in 2015, four years after he started as a design apprentice under Virgil Abloh at Off-White. Ross grew up on a council estate in Brixton, and that background shows up directly in the brand: garments read like working-class uniforms filtered through the discipline of British tailoring. He describes the label as "a material study for social architecture," which sounds academic until you see the clothes, harnesses, panelling, and raw material contrasts that turn a jacket into something closer to a piece of industrial design.
The brand made its official runway debut with the Spring/Summer 2018 show in London and quickly moved to Milan Fashion Week, becoming one of the few independent, Black-owned labels shown there. Ross sold his majority stake in 2023 and stepped down as chair, closing out his run with a final A-COLD-WALL* x Nike campaign that same year. What he built in under a decade is still the reference point for anyone talking about where streetwear meets high fashion.
Collaborations and Pieces That Define ACW
A-COLD-WALL*'s collaborations are as recognizable as its own house line, and they're a big part of what our customers come looking for:
- Nike: the Zoom Vomero 5 in Solarized colourways and A-COLD-WALL* takes on the Air Force 1, both grown out of a partnership that runs back to 2017.
- Converse: Chuck 70, Geo Forma boot, Aeon Active CX, and the Sponge Crater sole unit, each reworked with ACW's utilitarian detailing.
- Dr. Martens: the 1461 Bex and 1460, given a graphite finish and hardware that sets them apart from the standard boot.
- Oakley and Beats by Dre: capsule eyewear and headphones that carry the same brutalist design language into accessories.
- Eastpak, ROA, and Retrosuperfuture: bags, hiking boots, and sunglasses that round out the collaboration list.
Beyond the collabs, a handful of house pieces define the ACW wardrobe: the Cyclone Tactical Jacket, the Brush Stroke hoodie and tee with their paint-effect graphics, the Rhombus and Tryfan storm jackets, and the Dirt Moc sneaker. These are the pieces that tend to move fastest through our store, and the ones worth checking first if you're building a rotation.
2nd Culture's Authenticity Promise
A-COLD-WALL* sells fast and gets counterfeited often, which is exactly why our curation process matters. Every piece we take in goes through the same authenticity check we apply to Stone Island and CP Company: stitching, hardware, fabric weight, and label detail all get checked against verified reference pieces before anything reaches the rail. If you're chasing a specific collab, like the Nike Vomero or a Converse Geo Forma, ask our team; we track availability across our network and can flag it when something comes in.
How to Style A-COLD-WALL*
Layer a Cyclone jacket over a plain long-sleeve, add straight-leg cargos, and finish with a pair of ACW Converse or a technical boot. The look reads as functional rather than flashy, which is the point: ACW pieces are built to sit at the centre of an outfit without needing anything loud around them. For colder days, a Brush Stroke hoodie under a wool overcoat brings the graphic detail forward without breaking the silhouette. If you already collect Stone Island or CP Company, A-COLD-WALL* slots into the same wardrobe: technical, considered, and built for people who care about how a garment is put together.
Sizing and Fit
A-COLD-WALL* runs true to size but leans relaxed through the body, so most pieces sit a size larger than a typical fitted streetwear cut. If you're between sizes, size down for a closer silhouette or stay true to size for the drop-shoulder look the brand is known for. Footwear collaborations follow the base shoe's own sizing: Converse and Dr. Martens pairs fit the same as their standard releases, so check your usual size for those brands before ordering. Our team can walk you through fit questions for any specific piece before you buy.
